Carden Arbor View School - New K8 Campus
Carden Arbor View School
Alta Loma, CA
After a few decades of leasing space from a local church, Carden Arbor View School is moving to a “land of their own”. When construction is complete the 250 student K8 private school will move from Upland to a 2.5acre parcel in neighboring Alta Loma. The project marks somewhat of a homecoming for WLC as the firm prepared the original campus master plan for the Upland site over thirty years ago!
The new campus features a single, securable, one-story, 19,000sf building whose plan includes a central Commons Space. The Commons is envisioned as the heart of the school with all instructional spaces, including the new STEM Center, opening into this sky lit atrium. To fit in with the surrounding homes, be mindful of its younger student clientele, and be respectful of the existing historical Stoebe House (which will be remodeled into the school’s business office and alumni center), the new building’s architecture is residential in scale yet timeless in design.
Site improvements include staff/visitor parking, a lunch court with outdoor stage, a soccer field, and secure playground space. Private patios are accessible from every classroom so that instructional time can extend to outdoor learning opportunities.
