Merrit College Science and Allied Health Building is a new 110,000 square foot science building that includes a wide array of science and allied health classrooms as well as classrooms for use in mathematics, physical sciences, and other subject areas. The science functions that were designed for the building include biology, chemistry, organic chemistry, genomics, microscopy, anatomy, physiology, microbiology, radiology, and nursing.

The design concept for the project interiors was to provide an open environment conducive to student interaction with the faculty. The building is a LEED gold targeted facility as an ongoing demonstration of project design that achieves reductions in energy utilization and reduces the carbon footprint on the environment.

As the executive architect, WLC’s scope of services included full architectural and engineering services from the design development phase through closeout. WLC utilized bridging documents (schematic designs) from FLAD Architects and developed the project including design development, construction documents, state agency approvals, bidding, construction administration, certification, and closeout.
